The development was inspired by architect, Bill Dunster (designer of the Beddington Zero Energy Development or BedZED) and is at the forefront of low-energy building design.
Residents of each of the 17 units will benefit substantially from reduced heating bills. This is because energy for heating water is provided via 34 Consolar Plano 26 solar collectors, with back up from a wood pellet boiler.
Heat energy from both the solar and biomass systems is stored in 17 Consolar Thermal Stores.
Residents are charged on how much additional heat they demand from the boiler, over and above that generated for free from their solar panels.
